About the painting: During the late 1990's I hired a guide for a weeklong trip in the mountains west of the Gila Wilderness, New Mexico. One day as my guide walked to the edge of a canyon to survey it, I was able to capture this scene in a quick sketch. The day was crisp and clear with a cold wind blowing from Arizona. The Chiricahua Mountains of Arizona can be seen in the far distance. The painting is based upon that quick sketch and my vivid memories of the trip.
