About the painting:
I saw the Pectoral Sandpiper along the road to the Katy prairie (outside Houston, Texas). He is a beautifully marbled bird and blended in well with the brush and grass. For the painting I’ve brought him out of hiding and into the spotlight so we can admire his beautiful feathers. The background has specked paint (applied with a stiff bristled brush) which gives the painting an added sense of depth. Note: I’ve experimented with the shadow and speckled paint on several paintings with great results. That’s the nature of an artist; to test new techniques and ideas.
